Malpe

Udupi Sri Krishna temple Malpe first captured the attention of the world when great sage Madhwacharya, the founder of Dwaitha philosophy, found the statue of Lord Krishna and Lord Balarama embedded in clay balls on this beach. Acharya Madhwa founded the now famous Udupi Sri Krishna temple, the popular pilgrimage center, which is just 6 kms away from the beach. People from all over the state throng the beach to take a holy dip in the sea on the auspicious amavasya – Solar eclipse - days. People come here for sun, sand and swim and enjoy the serene beach. St. Mary’s Island

The famous St. Mary’s Island which is a few kms away from the resort, in the middle of the sea is a tourist’s paradise. It is believed to have been the site of the first landfall that Vasco da Gama made when he arrived in India. The island is just about 300m long and 100m wide and the only cover available are a few palm trees.

In particular the island is notable for the strange rock forms (columnar lava), which cause hexagonal crazy paving on the rocky outcrops around the shore. The island is a popular spot for day-trippers, especially at weekends and it is possible to swim in the sandy inlets at the south end of the island. Considering their importance, the Geological Survey of India has accorded these islands the status of a National Geological Monument. A boat ride to the island organized by the resort leaves the tourists breathless with excitement.
